Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

Government of India instituted two civilian awards- Bharat Ratna & Padma Vibhushan in 1954. The latter had three classes namely Pahela Varg, Dusra Varg and Tisra Varg.

These were subsequently renamed as Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri vide Presidential Notification issued on January 8, 1955.

  • Padma Bhushan
  • Padma Shri

However, Government servants including those working with PSUS, except doctors and scientists, are not eligible for Padma Awards.

Padma Awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year.

Padma Awards 2022 –

Padma Awards 2022, the President has approved conferment of 128 Padma Awards including 2 duo case (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one) as per list below.

  • 4 Padma Vibhushan
  • 17 Padma Bhushan
  • 107 Padma Shri Awards

In Padma Awards, 34 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.

Padma Vibhushan Awards –

General Bipin Rawat – He was the first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of India. Before being made the CDS, Bipin Rawat was appointed as the 27th Chief of the Army Staff on 31 December 2016. General Bipin Rawat had experience in commanding high altitude combat zones, and counter-insurgency operations.

Kalyan Singh – In the year 1967, he was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the first time and remained a member till the year 1980. In June 1991, Kalyan Singh became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. Singh had also been the governor of many states.

Prabha Atre – Dr. Prabha Atre is a well-known name in the world of classical music. She is an artist, musician, writer and has knowledge of different aspects of music. With her creativity, she has a different identity in the art field. She is one of the top singers of Hindustani classical tradition. He has played an important role in popularizing Indian classical music globally. Dr. Prabha Atre is one of those rare artists who have mastered different genres of music. Like Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Ghazal, Geet, Natyasangeet, Devotional song.

Radheshyam Khemka – Gita Press, located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, is not just a press, but is our heritage, which saves our culture and spreads it to the people. The verses written on his books are not only printed on the books, but have also been inscribed on our psyche. Radheshyam Khemka was the President of this Gita Press and the editor of the famous magazine ‘Kalyan’ of Sanatan Dharma. He died on 4 April 2021 at the age of 87.
