The Fifth Generation or 5G telecom services are set to be rolled out in named metropolises 5g launch in India in 2022.

The metropolises 5g launch in India date which are set to get the 5G telecom services in 2022 include Gurugram, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jamnagar, Ahmadabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Pune, and Gandhinagar.

The Department of Telecommunications said in an official statement on Monday (December 27) about 5g launch in India in 2022.

At the beginning of this year, Department of Telecommunications had sought inputs from telecom and assiduity experts on the trade and use of radio frequency diapason over the coming 10 Years, including the 5G bands.

Leading telecom service providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea, have established 5G trials spots in these metropolises.

These Metros and big metropolises would be the first places for 5g launch in India date services in the country, Next year, the Department of Telecommunications said on Monday.

What is 5G Technology?

  • 5G or fifth generation is the latest upgrade in the long- term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks.
  • 5G substantially works in 3 bands, mainly low, mid and high frequency diapason – all of which have their own uses as well as limitations.
  • While the low band diapason has shown great pledge in terms of content and speed of Internet and data exchange, the maximum speed is limit to 100 Mbps (Megabits per second).
  • This means that while telecom can use and install it for commercial cellphone users who may not have specific demands for veritably high speed Internet, the low band diapason may not be optimal for specialised requirements of the industry.
  • The mid-band diapason, on the other hand, offers advanced speeds compared to the low band, but has limitations in terms of content area and penetration of signals.
  • Telecom and companies, which have taken the lead on 5G, have indicated that this band may be used by industries and specialised plant units for building intern networks that can be moulded into the requirements of that particular industry.
  • The high-band diapason offers the highest speed of all the three bands, but has extremely limited content and signal penetration strength.
  • Internet speed in the high-band diapason of 5G has been test to be as high as 20 Gbps (giga bits per second), while, in most cases, the maximum internet data speed in 4G has been record at 1 Gbps.

Where does India stand in 5G?

  • Like other global players, India had, in 2018, planned to start 5G services as soon as possible, with an end to capitalise on the better network speed and strength that the technology promised.
  • All the three private telecom players, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Bharti Airtel and Vi, have been prompting the Department of telecommunications to lay out a clear road chart of diapason allocation and 5G frequency bands,
  • So that they’re suitable to plan the rollout of their services consequently.
  • One big chain, still, is the lack of inflow of cash and acceptable capital with at least two of the three players, namely Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.

Global Progress on 5G –

  • Further than governments, global telecom companies have started erecting 5G networks and rolling it out to their customers on a trial base.
  • In countries like the US, companies similar as AT&T, T- mobile, and Verizon have taken the lead when it comes to rolling out marketable 5G for their users.
  • While some similar as AT&T had started testing and planting the technology as early as 2018, other companies similar as Verizon have followed suit, expanding their 5Gultra-wide broadband services to as mant as 60 metropolises by the end of 2020.
  • In other countries similar as China, some of the telecom similar as China Unicom had started 5G trials as early as 2018, and have since rolled out the marketable services for users.
  • South Korean company Samsung, which had started probing on 5G technology way back in 2011, has taken the lead when it comes to erecting the hardware for 5G networks for several companies.

Government involvement in 5G –

  • Apart from the leading telecom drivers and smartphone manufacturers, the government is also involve laboriously to grease the rollout of 5G services.
  • The Department of Telecom has roped in leading exploration institutions for development and testing of 5G technology.
  • Eight agencies-Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore, Society for Apply Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) and Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWIT)-are involve in the exploration project call’ Indigenous 5G Test bed project’.
  • The Indigenous 5G Test bed project started in 2018 and is set to be completed by December 31, 2021.
  • The project has been fund by the Department of Telecom.
  • The department has spent Rs224 crore on this project.
  • Test bed refers to creating a specific terrain for testing the products or services.
  • It includes hardware, software, operating system, and network configuration.
  • The indigenous 5G test bed, a visionary technology development project initiated in telecom space, will enable development, testing and proliferation of 5G technology system factors, cross-sectoral use cases, besides setting up the foundation for the development of “6G Technology geography.”
